Finding Clarity in Business & Life Through Travel

What if the key to unlocking your business potential was packing a bag and hitting the road?

Realigning My Business: The Power of Pivoting

I am now six months into running my business, and I’ve had a major realisation: I was offering too much. I wanted to help people in every way possible, but in doing so, I blurred my own focus. Clients found it confusing, and I found myself stretched across services that weren’t truly lighting me up.

That’s when I made the decision to pivot, to refine what I do, removing the Virtual Assistant side of my business and fully embracing my passion for website creation and business setup advising. Because life is far too short to build something you don’t absolutely love, and this is something I learnt through my travels with my family.

One of the hardest but most valuable lessons in life, and especially in business, is knowing when to let go. Whether it’s a service you’ve poured hours into, material things you no longer have room for, a website feature that just isn’t working, or messaging that feels great but isn’t resonating, sometimes, stepping back is what creates real clarity.

As I refined my offerings, I focused on what truly serves my audience, helping small business owners build strong foundations and reclaim their time. This shift made everything clearer, both for me and my clients.

What some of you may not know is that I live a van life and have done so for six years. For four of those years, we travelled as a family in our RV across the UK, France, Italy, and Spain. Travel has given me perspective, not just on life, but on work and how I want to structure my days. It helped me see what truly matters, beyond rigid schedules and arbitrary rules.

Travel taught me that I never want to spend a beautiful day sitting in an office. I’ve learnt to embrace flexibility, making the most of the present and adjusting my work schedule when needed. It reinforced that success isn’t about adhering to a strict routine; it’s about designing a life that allows for both productivity and presence.

It also deepened my understanding of the importance of family and connection. My business fits around my daughter’s home education, her lessons, activities, and social events. I shape my schedule around my family’s needs while ensuring that when I am in client mode, they receive 100% of my attention. That dedicated work time might be in the evening, on weekends, or during the three hours I spend at the community centre every Monday.

Through travel, I’ve come to appreciate intentional work rhythms. Success isn’t about clocking in, it’s about showing up fully when it matters. Running a business and balancing home education requires thoughtful scheduling, but the freedom to prioritise meaningful experiences makes all the difference.

Perhaps the most important lesson travel has reinforced is that happiness doesn’t come from material things. It’s the journey, the connections, and the presence we bring to our daily lives that truly matter. This shift in perspective has influenced both my personal life and my approach to business.

Why This Matters in Business

The lessons from travel and entrepreneurship intersect beautifully. Clarity comes when you strip things back to what truly serves your audience. Success isn’t about rigid hours, it’s about working intentionally. And most importantly, your business should reflect what excites you, not just what you can do.

I’ve embraced these lessons in my pivot, ensuring that every service I offer brings joy and impact, not just to my clients, but to me as well.
