Rocky's Pet Products - Shopify Migration
Antonia of Rocky's Pet Products approached me on 20th May, struggling with the limited functionality, poor scalability, and SEO issues of her 123 Reg platform. Her previous store offered no options for abandoned cart reminders and prevented customers from setting up accounts, hindering her ability to grow and manage customer relationships effectively. She desperately needed a robust e-commerce solution to support her burgeoning business. After an initial free discovery call, I developed a detailed, paid proposal for a complete migration to Shopify. My goal was clear: transition her entire online store to a powerful, flexible platform, ensuring safe data transfer, improved online visibility, and uninterrupted business operations. Despite a tight deadline, the project was successfully completed by the end of July.
What I Delivered for Rocky's Pet Products:
Seamless Product Data Migration: I meticulously exported data from the previous store into updated and compatible CSV files, and then imported all product details, including SKUs, descriptions, high-quality images, prices, collections, metafields, and current stock levels, into Shopify. I enhanced the shopping experience by consolidating similar products into clearer options, adding necessary variants, and setting up PDF downloads, purchases, and a workshop event.
Secure Customer & Order History Transfer: I safely migrated all customer accounts (names, emails, and marketing preferences) and their complete history of orders, including invoices. This was critical for maintaining strong customer relationships and accurate accounting records. Crucially, I enabled new customer account creation, empowering clients to track orders and streamline their shopping experience.
Content Migration & Formatting: I transferred all blog posts and resolved various formatting inconsistencies, ensuring Rocky's valuable content was accurately represented on the new platform.
Enhanced Online Discoverability (SEO): I implemented a robust SEO strategy specifically for pet crafting kits, leveraging common UK search terms. This involved optimising product pages, categories, and images with target keywords, ensuring fast loading times, mobile responsiveness, and clean, clear URLs.
Trustpilot Reviews Integration: I connected their existing Trustpilot reviews to the new Shopify store, instantly building trust with new customers and enabling automatic new review collection.
Strategic Website Redirects: I created 301 redirects to seamlessly guide search engines and visitors from old website addresses to the new Shopify URLs, preventing broken links and preserving search engine rankings.
Integrated Social Media & Advertising: I configured the Shopify store for effective Google Shopping campaigns by connecting it with their Google Merchant Centre account.
Precise Ad Tracking Setup: I ensured all necessary tracking codes (e.g., the Facebook Pixel) were correctly set up in Shopify for accurate marketing campaign tracking and optimised ad targeting.
Automated Email Communication Optimisation: I reviewed and updated automated emails to customers, such as abandoned basket reminders and post-purchase communications, utilising Shopify's built-in email service and ensuring correct technical settings, a crucial feature previously unavailable.
Domain & Email Continuity Management: I updated domain settings to point the website to the new Shopify store, guaranteeing website continuity while confirming professional email accounts remained active and separate.
Essential Store Settings Configuration: I manually set up critical operational details in Shopify, including sales tax rules, shipping costs, and comment availability on checkout, aligning precisely with their previous business setup.
